Tangled

Emma Chase

3.69 AVERAGE

Such a typical story but Emma Chase managed to make it hilariously fresh with Drew Evan's witty, honest and devil-may-care POV. He's a rare spin on the spoiled and arrogant douche because he actually acknowledges that he is indeed a spoiled and arrogant douche. He has a soft side somewhere but he knows he is 99% egocentric and it's hilarious. Make no mistake: Some of the things that Drew thinks about women are sexist and stupid but as a character he is enjoyable? Kinda like how Draco Malfoy is an asshole and you don't ever want to meet him in real life but you like reading about him and his antics.

The love interest, Kate Brooks, is also not your typical NA/A heroine because she truly is a confident, sweet and sexy goddess in heels. The other characters were enjoyable for the little moments in which they were present like Alexandra was a lioness of an older sister, her daughter Mackenzie was adorkable, DeeDee was a spunky queen and Drew's friends were seriously like all the guy friends I've ever had: unapologetically guy-ish but caring when it matters.

Overall, Tangled was predictable and there was nothing earth-shattering about it but it was so fun and I read it in less than a day so there's that.

I found it interesting ready a “trashy romance” from a males perspective. A bit vulgar at times, but it had a good amount of sex

This definitely didn’t age well

"Edward Cullen can take his stupid heroin & OD on it. Kate is my own personal brand of Viagra."

Stlh mencoba bbrp jenis romance, dari adult contemporary romance spt Sylvia Day's crossfire series, new adult contemporary spt Jamie Mcguire's walking disaster & Tammara Webber's easy, hingga adult paranormal romance spt Richelle Mead's georgina kincaid series, baru buku ini mencetak homerun. Selain ceritanya lumayan oke, byk tulisan & dialog2 lucu yg bikin ak ngakak...
Jadi setelah ini ak bakal mencari2 lagi contemporary romance yg lumayan spt ini...
Ini termasuk adult contemporary romance. Apa gunanya menjadi dewasa kalau tdk dimanfaatkan untuk membaca novel dewasa??

So funny! Not read a book this good in ages! Loved the characters, love that it's from the male POV!! :) really good definitely be reading more if Emma chase! :)

3 'I hate you Drew' Stars

First, the plot in a nutshell: SPOLER ALERT!!!
Drew is a manwhore and a shark in his business (he's an I-banker). He meets a woman at a pub and starts flirting with her, only to find out that she's already engaged. Letting it slide away, he soon finds out that that woman, Kate Brooks, is also a new employee in his father's company. After a rough start, they get closer. When her fiancée dumps her, Drew picks up the pieces and they have a weekend of steamy workout *wink wink*. He fucks thinks up and then wins her back.

Now, from this nutshell, it seems like a pretty decent book. But, there's a but. You have to know that the last 5 words of my summary eat up almost fifty percent of the book. While the first half is crammed of events, the second is an endless stream of grand gestures.

Here's the first thing that annoyed me: grand gestures. Aaargh. How much I hate you? Not you, you. I mean, you Mr. grand gestures. Like filling your woman's room with balloons is really going to make her forget how useless you made her feel. Also, all the gestures were so very impersonal (but the last one, okay. I'll admit to it). Anyway, all the grand gestures but one were absolutely impersonal, which spelled a lot about Drew. But what was worse is that Drew behaved like a frigging stalker during this half of book. As in, follow her while she's working, almost sexually assault her, call her at two in the effing morning and keep doing it even after she hung up on you.

That, people, isn't romantic. I'm going to repeat it. It. Is. Not. Romantic. As it's not having three men playing old love songs to you all day while you're at work. That's freaky and awkward. It gave me the creeps and a serious case of headache.

Anyway, the beginning of the novel wasn't that bad, and you want to know why? Because Drew is frigging hilarious! I'm talking Clayton's levels of hilarious, but from a male's POV, that is . That's what saved this book, afflicted by a plot so minimalist it would make even the starkest interior designer cringe. Drew is funny as hell, people. And I really liked the way he would relate to the reader. As in: "You see the man sitting on that bar stool? Yeah, that's me" Or "And isn't she beautiful? Seriously, guys..." or even: “You see where this is all going, right? Yup, you have all guessed what the punchline is.” (BTW: I took the freedom to make them up, here. None of these are real quotes from the book.) But you got the gist of it.

So, off to the next case in point. Which still happens to be Drew. Drew the jerkface, main character Drew, and actually only real character here. His inner monologues took so much page-space that in truth it read more like "Drew's opinions about a romance" rather than and actual romance. That's why Kate was such an insipid character, perhaps. But let's take a step back, shall we?

We were talking about Drew. Well, how to describe him? He's a bastard. It's as simple as that. I loved his thoughts in the way they were structured, but his self-description of a rotten spoiled, cocky, egotistical, arrogant bastard couldn't be more fitting.

I'll make an example. When he first meets Kate's fiancée, before they break up (Kate and the fiancée I mean), Drew learns that the guys is a musician. Therefore, he stars bashing the guy about his being unemployed, not a real man, and a lot of other offensive things. Judgmental is his second name. Also with Kate, during his "let's get back together phase", he has no respect for what she wants. He keeps storming into her life and force her to listen to him. Again, stalker.

Let's move on to Kate, now. She's the female main character, the heroine. She's supposed to be epic somehow. The woman who finally convinces the manwhore to give it up to monogamy. Yet I found her completely inconsequential. I know I'm being harsh here. She's not a bad person, but I simply couldn't find it in me to... care about her. Or to feel for her. We know a little of her past and we also know she's a driven, workaholic who can sing very well, but this is where our given knowledge ends. In a book like this, that at the beginning I dared to compare to Wallbanger (to which it can't even hold a candle), you need both the hero and the heroine to be something different, or more. As I said, epic.

I'm talking Caroline and Simon here. Nighty Girl and Wallbanber kind of epic. Sad enough, uptight Kate and snooty, narcissistic Drew didn't do it for me.

I'll conclude by saying that it was a really light read, perfect for the summer. Even during the moping around part, Drew's twisted thinking brought a smile to my face. Also, McKenzie and the Bad Word Jar always managed to up the level of the narration. As well as The Bitch did.

So yeah, I wouldn't highly recommend it, unless you just put down a Sorensen book. In that case, suit yourself and make this novel your bitch. It will lift your spirit and the corners of your lips.

Very different reading from a male's POV. This was an entertaining fast read.

Loved how Drew was so torn up in the beginning, as it was a different way to start the story. That said I was definitely not crazy about the third-person perspective although the story itself was otherwise good. In the end it was a fairly good book that actually took me awhile to start reading and sadly to not finish. Despite not finishing i would still recommend it as a good book that simply wasn't meant for me.

3.5 stars

It's a nice change of pace to have the sole narrator be the man in the story, and having the narrator break down the fourth wall was fun too. That said, I'm hoping we get Kate's perspective in the next book. I'm not sure I would love an entire series from Drew's POV, he's rather glib and I can't see him carrying a whole series by himself.
