I love Miss Marple!!! Agatha Christie is such a great author and her plots always have a twist at the end. I also love to read about village life in England at that time!1

I mean, this was classic Agatha Christie. I’ve read a few Ms Marple stories, I like her. this book didnt have a lot of her, and honestly I cant remember if thats the way these books go? But obviously she cracks the case regardless of how much we saw her in the story.

The case here was cool. It wasn’t very old fashioned and definitely could have held up in a more modern setting, which I liked about this particular novel.

Read as part of my October challenge (from Amy) to read books with the word Library in the title.

mysterious

What a pleasure it was to reread this book. The first time I read a Miss Marple mystery story,l I was in my early teens and did not appreciate just how smart the woman is. She's very observant, and remembers little things about people, and draws parallels between different people to figure out who could have done it (the murder, that is.)
And I don't remember Agatha Christie being quite so funny the first time I read this; I found myself laughing out loud at the dialogue between Mrs. and Mr. Bantry at the beginning of the book. There are also little descriptions as the story progresses that are amusing.
Though I figured out who one of the murderers was and suspected the other, I had fun reading as the story unfolded and Miss Marple did her thing, quietly watching everyone involved, and figuring out who was responsible.

I enjoyed this although not as much as The Murder At The Vicarage. Again it's interesting that Miss Marple is almost a background character and doesn't appear much at all. It's not so much a cosy mystery due to the nature of the murders, and very dated in attitudes. But overall an interesting book. All the clues are there to work out the murderer but I didn't once again!

Although it assumes a lot, both about pretentious young men and naive young women, I thought this was quite clever in the end. It is one of those rare red herrings that are skillfully woven into the plot to support the story, rather than just thrown over the top to obscure the story.
