I enjoyed it for what it was. The plot is quite original, it is influenced by Polish mythology and I didn't know anything about it before reading. English isn't the author's native language and if simplistic and sometimes not quite correct English is a deal breaker for you, this might bug you. Meaning: don't expect a sophisticated, eloquent writing style. If you can manage to focus on the story and the characters, this is indeed quite an entertaining read. I will pick up the sequel for sure.

OMG it was so good ! Best book to get out of my reading slump.

The cliffhanger though! Can’t wait to read part two I desperately want to know what happens next!

I loved the linguistic introduction to Polish pronunciation.

I'm sitting here trying to write a review for this book and all I can think is wow. This book has everything you could want, magic, demons, fantastic characters. It was amazing to read a book based on slavic mythology, as there are barely any and it is so interesting! It was also set in Poland, which was a breath of fresh air since most books are set in the US (not saying that's a bad thing but variety is quite nice).

Now, about the characters. They all seem like real human beings and not some kind of perfect being that gets everything right at the first try and without even putting some effort into it, which I found great. We also get some questioning characters which was amazing to read and it was so well connected to the story!! It definitely wasn't something forced just for the sake of diversity, it made sense and I loved it.

About the set, I already said I really liked that it was set in Poland so I'll just add that the vibes of the descriptions were fantastic and it made the little town sound really magic.

All in all, the book is really good and I really recommend it to anyone that likes:
a) magic
b) demons
c) adorable and relatable characters
d) good books

Reading this book gave such beautiful insight into Polish folklore and was a true joy to read. The magic and bonds between all of the characters is so incredibly authentic and heart-warming. The mystery had me hooked the entire time and I couldn’t help but love the magical world that was created.

Things i loved about this book:
- all of the characters!!
- not only one but TWO questioning queer ace spectrum characters
- the fresh but comforting take on fantasy that somehow felt real
- learning more about slavic mythology!
- just the way the characters were so unapologetically themselves
- this was the first time i saw and felt myself represented in a book <3
