More of exactly the same that made the first book charming. If you liked that, you'll like this.

So I decided to pick up the second book of the duology, despite being a bit annoyed with the lack of answers in the first book because months after reading the first book I would still think about it and would recommend it to customers. I normally lose all memory of books shortly after reading them so this was a bit unusual. I also had the chance to meet the author recently at a convention and he is a local author and  a really nice guy with a very cool stamp. Anyways…

This book does finally give some of the answers we have all been waiting for when it comes to Davi being in this world in the first place. It also gives you a pretty satisfying ending. The second book also has the same crass tone that you experienced in the first. This can either put people off or be pretty humorous. I think the first book was a lot more crass than the second and the use of footnotes was stronger in the first book for me. It is possible that you just know a lot more about the world so the second book’s footnotes aren’t as informative and fall a bit flat.

I liked this duology quite a bit mostly for its humour and for breaking the fourth wall. Books like this can be hit or miss for me but overall I think it was worth the read.

Great finish! In some ways it's not as much freewheeling madcap fun as the first, but that makes sense because the big twist has twisted bigly and shit has got real... but of course that's no reason for Davi to stop being her frenetic, frank-talking self, so it's still plenty fun enough. (The best sort of fun: the sort with a lot of crunchy real stuff at its core. There were so many excellent developments and realisations in here, but the playing out of Amitsugu was particularly well done.) I enjoyed finally meeting Himbo Boyfriend Johann and digging into the Kingdom, and I appreciated how completely bananas everything got. Just a great time.
