Longest book I’ve ever read but I easily got through it. Just wish the events happened in chronological order and that the ending wasn’t ass. The ending doesn’t clear up any questions nor was it satisfying enough, probably just enough to make you want to read the next book in the series. Will I read the second one…. Maybe… but I’ll probably put it on my want to read list then forget about it. This book wasn’t a complete shit show like some reviewers thought but I can understand some points based on the ending bc they leave you hanging and Gabriel loses all his morals and previous motivations in the last 20 pages. Would have given this 5 stars if it wrapped everything up in a satisfying way even if it wasn’t a “happy ending” ( I wasn’t expecting a happy ending but the plot got so convoluted it just seemed like the story was just broken up into several books instead of just ending. Vampire homie literally said I’m done writing this story see you tomorrow to finish up like and Gabe said ok. Huh like what an ass way to end a book)

A great read. Different from most novels I have read as it was written by a male author but it made the plot seem more refreshing with greater emphasis on the horrors of war opposed to the romance storylines that are in most books I read.

Honestly one of my favorite books. I think Gabriel got himself intentionally captured to save his world. His sister omg. Dior. Chole. So much happened in this book I don't know what to do with myself. I love this book though. Jay Kristoff is one my favorite authors. Ughhh. So much death and sadness is this book though. I almost cried. I wanted to cry.

Empire of the Vampire was an absolutely fantastic return to vampire fantasy for me!

I am a sucker for gothic, religious iconography in my vampire novels, and this book delivered. I loved the thematic backdrop for the Silversaints. Along with the book being drenched with classic wine-bottle-ridden tables and culty-religious vibes often found in gothic vampire literature, it also brought some very unique ideas to the table with the Silversaints' tattoo and smoking habits.

The tone of this book was wild, a mix of French influence, old English, and in-your-face cussing that always managed to catch me by surprise. It was really refreshingly new!

There are a lot of plot themes throughout this hefty novel, but the one that really stuck with me was the wrestling with faith and morality that many of the characters did. It is a strong throughline of the book that was striking, maybe because it hit close to home. I'm sure for some, it could be a bit overbearing.

I enjoyed this book. Great world and lore building, I was able to get lost in this story. I’m excited to read the second one
