A hilarious manga about two teens finding out that they were switched at birth.. and oh yes, have to get married. Chaos ensues.

Another one from my Humble Bundle and boy such chaos. XD I was definitely drawn to this one by the cover (what is that guy doing) and the title. And it took me until after I read the book what the title meant. Haha. My brain is clearly not working lately.

In this book we meet a boy named Nagi who has just learned that he was switched at birth and has been living with the wrong set of parents for a long time. Then there is a girl named Erika who has also learned the same. Fun fact, they both don’t know about each other. So what happens when Nagi, on the way to the appointment with parents, bumps into Erika. They have a chaotic meeting (and I was not happy that Erika turned THAT event into THAT just to save her own butt, sure throw someone under the bus to save yourself) and they decide to pretend to date (as Erika has to otherwise be matched to get married). And then the appointment happens and more chaos ensues. I had such a laugh when the parents met. And when Erika and Nagi met for real and found out the truth.

I was definitely confused about Erika. I get that she has grown up in a house that is more from the West than the East and her school is probably the same, but HOW DID SHE NOT know that she had to put off her shoes? I mean, this is still Japan right? Does she never go anywhere? There were also other moments that had me scratching my head. I get that she is rich, but I am a bit tired of the trope that rich people are oblivious to everything. Like how she offended Nagi’s home and thought it was just a shed or something. WTF. Or how she just casually threw around money. I just would like, for once, see a rich person with some brains and some regard to the world around them.

I am still not sure if I am shipping this weird couple. On the one hand there were some moments that I could see some chemistry.. but at other times I just didn’t see it. Erika especially seems like a cute and sweet girl but how she treats Nagi at times.. didn’t work for me.

There is another girl from Nagi’s school. He is determined to confess when he gets to #1 during big tests. I found her quite cute, though her attitude just sucked, but when we find out why… I could understand her more. I hope we see more of her in the next volumes.

I did like the art! It was fun and cute and I really wonder how those parents never thought to go back and check. Haha. A whole family of darker-haired peeps get a blonde girl who is not really like them whereas the other couple gets a boy with dark hair who also doesn’t fit their boisterous ways. Not to mention, I would think you know the gender of your baby? I guess we shouldn’t think too much about it. It did make for one crazy plot, especially since Erika and Nagi meet before the whole appointment with the parents and don’t know one thing about that they are the babies. XD

All in all, despite the little chemistry, I loved the chaos and I loved that these two kids got the chance to meet their parents. Plus, I am curious if being stuck together in one house for a while will make something happen. Or just more chaos.

Cute art, entertaining characters, and some fun surprises.

Story: ★★★★☆
Art: ★★★★☆

Sometimes tropes aren't the sign of an impoverished creative process, but a springboard for something original. I liked how the author pokes fun of the tropes while twisting the storyline chapter after chapter.

The art is as polished and expressive as it is exaggerative. This art style practically screams to make the transition to anime. The large, wide eyes result in these shortened, round heads that have a charm that grew on me. I also enjoyed the familial similarities in the faces between the lead characters and their "real" same sex parents.

Mostly, I enjoyed the characters and the way they interacted with each other. I look forward to the next volume.
