This was a fast, fun read. I liked the coy and sometimes carefree tone of the narration; it wasn’t just the grim, secretive setting up of most mysteries. The appreciation of the genre from both the author and one of the main characters is endearing and purposeful. I’m recognizing the tropes as I read mysteries across different historical eras and cultures and the puzzle solving is almost always still satisfying. Super fun, can’t wait to check out more from this author!
