This was a short but fun book, about a girl who likes to be in the middle of things.

Gooney Bird Greene is new to the second grade classroom of Watertower Elementary School. Important things to know about Gooney Bird, she likes to be right smack in the middles of everything and she is an extraordinaire storyteller, of only absolutely true stories! Gooney Bird Greene is an wonderful and funny character in the true fashion Romona and Pippi Longstocking.

It was funny, the audiobook added great voices, and the kiddo liked it. However I, honestly was rather put off by Gooney Bird's personality as a little adult. While kids might pick up some good advice for storytelling, the characters are not relatable for the intended audience.

Such a delightful snapshot of how real and squirrely children can be. Additionally, it's an excellent introduction to several aspects of good storytelling. My kids (10 and 7) were very sad to see this book end.

Gooney Bird Greene enters her class a confident young girl with a flair for the dramatic. Her class encourages her to tell them the stories of her life, stories they feel must be exaggerated. As she tells the stories however, her classmates and teacher find out that she is telling the truth! She is just telling it in way that makes it seem beyond possible, at first.

Teachers, this is a good read aloud to get those writing juices flowing! We all have stories. How can we think about them in another way to cause our readers to be desperate to read them?

This book is about a girl named Gooney Bird Greene. She came from China on a flying carpet. Gooney Bird Greene dresses funny and likes to tell stories--absolutely true stories. My favorite story was the one about Catman, her pet kitty.

This cute book had kept my second grade daughters interest and looking forward to reading with me each night. I love Lois Lowry's use of language and description.

There were great writing tips dispersed throughout this narrative. Gooney is an eccentric, lovable character.

Cute.
