Sudha Murthy is a renowned name in accordance with Infosys. But there is another side of this person which got revealed in this book. The name itself is that much intriguing to grab the attention. "Three Thousand Stitches" has an entire story behind its origin.
Other stories revolved around the experiences Mrs. Murthy had gained throughout her life, sometimes directly and sometimes indirectly through some family member or family friends.
Overall, it seemed that I was reading someone's diary. Writing flow is simple and reaches to the heart easily.

This book is like a breath of fresh air from one's hectic life. The writing style is simplistic and engaging to my satisfaction and the book stays true to its subtitle. It showcases the culture and the ordinary people of India beautifully, meanwhile describing their extraordinary journey of life. In short, this book lived up to my expectations and it's worthy of a reread.
Though Sudha Murty is a renowned name in India, for her social work, her life story and even as the wife of founder of Infosys, Narayana Murty; this was the first book I read written by her.
I appreciate the fact that she is a self-made woman, starting from the education she chose, profession she fought for and then the name she has made for herself. She has made an identity for herself, which is not just dependent on her husband's name and fame.
This book is a mix collection of 11 stories derived from her personal life experiences and honestly I don't understand the flow or the significance of all of them. As an auto-biography, it lacked the flow and depth I would have prefer. Some of the stories even lacked any message.
Maybe my expectations were higher. Nevertheless, I did come to know her more closely with these 11 stories from her life.

Infosys chairperson and author Sudha Murthy's 'Three Thousand Stitches' is a beautiful anthology of short stories compiled together. In the 179 pages book, she shares various experiences of hers in different stages of her life.
She talks about how she approached the devadasis of Karnataka, trying to better their lives and the challenges she faced in her path; how she was rewarded in the form of a blanket with three thousand stitches. In other stories, she talks about her trials and tribulations as the only female student in her engineering college as well as about her father's journey as a doctor and what joy kindness and decisiveness brought in, in her father's life. She talks about the effects of Indian cinema worldwide; Indian mythology at her own home, and about the origins of several 'Indian' food.
She shares the beautiful memories of her visit to Varanasi and her very special bond with her grandmother. She also makes us aware of the bane called alcoholism, status-consciousness and about the plight of working class women moving to Middle Eastern countries with the dream of wealth in their eyes but ending up trapped as victims, miserable.
The stories are written in simple English, easy to comprehend and yet have a profound emotional impact on the readers. I enjoyed reading every single story and Murthy's memories are etched in my heart. I felt proud when she became the only female engineer of her generation, I shed tears with her, when she reminisced her moments with her grandmother. She made me laugh, cry and feel three thousand other emotions through the pages of her book.
