کتاب خیلی خوبی بود و ارزش خوندن داشت، سرشار از نکات قابل تامل و تازه از دید من بود و در کنار اینها کشش داستان هم حفظ شده بود. استفاده از شخصیت های واقعی و ترکیب ظریف زندگی واقعی اون ها با داستانی تصنعی، هم به زیبایی کتاب کمک زیادی کرده بود. به دغدغه ها، افکار و ترسهایی پرداخته بود که در خیلی از ما عمومیت داره و دید تازه ای رو در رویارویی با اون ها نشون داده بود. البته علاقه من به فلسفه و همچنین نیچه هم در این اظهارنظر بی تاثیر نیست.

I finished this book ages ago but never got around to reviewing it. It’s good- it probes lots of interesting questions about life, psychology, philosophy, and more. It’s about Dr Josef Breuer, Lou Salome, and Sigmund Freud and how - along with Friedrich Nietzsche, the beginning of psychoanalysis began. Except Yakima says ‘history is fiction that happened. Fiction is history that could have happened.’ And the crux: Breuer and Nietzsche never met. The story is fabricated. So all the stakes are sorta - imaginary, which admittedly steals from the sense of wonder this book creates. I felt a bit cheated in that sense. Also it is very, VERY talky. Like all they do is talk. Still, Yalom is obviously a very intelligent man (apparently he’s written THE academic textbook on psychoanalysis) and his love for and admiration of his subject matter comes across. In all, it’s a pretty remarkable book that asks pertinent questions about life. 3.5-4/5
