There aren't many words that one can use to describe this amazing novel - simply because it's far more than a novel.
Irvin Yalom created a masterpiece, an amazing world where history, philosophy, psychology, and imagination collide to create this spectacular journey. Both Nietzsche and Breuer are depicted in such an analytical and beautiful way that it makes you feel like you personally know them. The life-changing messages included can easily affect even the most sceptical reader.
Certainly one of the best books I have read so far.

I was a bit torn about this one. I loved the content, but I thought the proze was a bit flat. Nevertheless, good read, and I will probably pick up some other books by him.

Audiobook. I wonder if my main draw with this book is that I'm a psychotherapy nerd. That's ok, right? The protagonist really drew me in and I know I'll be thinking and thinking about this book for a long time. The give-and-take of the sessions reminded me a lot of therapy, which I personally find gripping. Yalom did what he does best, i.e., write about therapy and existential philosophy. The plot and other characters weren't as compelling as these other aspects of the novel, to be honest. Overall it was a valuable read that may inform things I do and think about as a therapist.
It has been a while since I have read this, but what I remember is that it was well written, a page turner, and a delight for a counselor-in-training to read. I rarely re-read books, but this will be one that I shall return to.
I thoroughly enjoyed When Nietzsche Wept, which chronicles a fictitious relationship between two of the 19th century's eminent minds. Questions of the relationship between doctor and patient, as well as human relationships in general, are explored as Josef Breuer and Friedrich Nietzsche debate issues of psychology, despair, philosophy and love.
Reading it in a week, when you are busy working on your thesis and work stuff is burying u, must mean that this book is A-mazing. I loved it. Cant remember reading another book so hungrily waiting impatiently for the next sentence. I think learning about nietzsche's philosophy thru this book is such a glorious opportunity. I have always been confused with philosophy. But this book was like a cheese trick, like the one that parents use to make children eat vegetables. Loved it. People should all read this to understand their goals and that what they have aint so bad :))
