Different from Austen’s earlier finished novels, but no less entertaining and enjoyable to read. It’s a shame she died before she could flush out the stories of The Watsons and Sanditon, as I quite liked where they were headed, but Lady Susan wasn’t my favourite.

A beautiful little collection of minor and unfinished works by Jane. It's fun to see how she tried to play with different ways of writing. And also nice to know she settled on a slightly different way of writing.

Would've loved to see The Watsons and Sanditon be continued, Lady Susan was okay

I have one word for all of these works: cute! Lady Susan's plot was great, and had me hooked as I read all the letters, which really revealed so much without going too in depth. The Watsons was probably the most intriguing one for me, as the protagonist, Emma Watson, had so much potential! I have such a soft spot for Austen's characters having slow-burn relationships, and The Watsons was no exception. Now, I can only speculate about what could've been! Sanditon was great too, and the interpersonal dynamics between the characters, as well as their connections to Sanditon as a place, are portrayed in such a captivating way that again, I can only wish for more! This is so worthy of 4 stars, and the only reason I hadn't rated it 5 is because I wanted closure for the latter 2 works.

Reading Sanditon for the second time, I found myself much more engaged with the plot. I think it helped that I read further context about hypochondria for uni, so I went into it just analysing away! I especially love Charlotte's rational presence in the midst of chaos...

I had hoped to discover some of Jane Austen's hidden treasures in her unfinished novels. Unfortunately, I am struggling to get through these. I find it so unsettled. I do not like Lady Susan at all. It is way too contrived which is probably why Jane abandoned it. I should simply have trusted Jane's own judgement of her unfinished work and left it as unread as it is unfinished. . . maybe I will return to it another time and find it less frustrating. . .

About 12 short stories from Austen including a history of England which gave little summaries of the kings and queens. They did all seem to merge into one as they all had very similar premises . However I did like that some told the story through passing of letters such a Love and Friendship and Lady  Susan . Lady Susan was one of my favourites as she is a widower who teases a younger man whilst also trying to find a suitable husband for her daughter.
