I had heard good things about this book and it does not disappoint.
It is not my usual taste , slow burn, LGBTQ+ , sword and sandals era. But the political intrigue and true ETL is compelling and makes me want to jump right into the next volume.

War ein guter Start. Die Premisse ist spannend, die Charaktere gut inszeniert. Allerdings fand ich den Move ganz schön dumm vom Bastard König, seinen Rivalen nicht umzubringen, sondern als Sklave ans Nachbarland zu verkaufen. Das wird aber alles aufgeklärt und erhält noch ne logische Erklärung. Ansonsten gibts eigentlich nix auszusetzen. Es gab bisschen Spice, viele Andeutungen wie die Charaktere zu einander stehen und wie das ganze enden wird. Das ist aber auch wohl die größte Schwachstelle, es ist schon im ersten Band klar, was in der Vergangenheit passiert ist und wie das ganze ausgehen wird, zumindest, wenn man bisschen zwischen den Zeilen lesen kann. Guter Auftakt, allerdings ist Band 1 auch nur 260 Seiten lang... Hätten in meinen Augen auch zwei Bücher sein können.
Yeah… this could have been the first 50 pages of the series, and not an entire book. Not great but the rest of the series has great reviews so…

- Plot - 7; mostly about sex slaves, and not quite in a fun way
- Pacing - 6; did not need to be this long
- Worldbuilding - 4; I think this is just Paris and Spain so I’m imagining the characters as Conde and Francis from reign
- Relationships - 6; kind of glad they didn’t rush the enemies to lovers
- Enjoyment - 6; whatever
- Spice - 6; not very enjoyable

people are sleeping on this book honestly. It deals with some heavy shit, so look up content/trigger warnings before you go into this.
The only negative thing I have to say is that it didnt hook me completely, but that might just be because it is a relatively short book for me, so cant wait to read the rest of the series!
