Terry was on one hell of a hot streak at this point in the Discworld series. This one is much more on the serious end without as much laugh-out-loud moments but is still relentlessly clever, profound, and engrossing.

Takes a while to start, but keeps on rolling once in motion. Cameos by the City Watch and De Worde are an excellent treat and although its not necessary, readers should at least be familiar with them and Ankh-Morpork for added enjoyment ("Men at Arms," "Feet of Clay," "The Truth")

I love that everyone's take on this book are so different, and I love that so many people read it.

This was not one of my favorite Pratchett novels, as I fear many of his more recent novels are too formulaic. But the plot and characters, and the ever present social commentary are solid. And after all a couple of my favorite of his novels are his newer novels - Thud!, Going Postal - and formulaic or not, they are awesome.

i didn't know what to expect from Terry Pratchett but i've been told for ages I'd probably love his work. I struggled a little bit with the lack of chapters but i found this book so funny and it really grabbed my attention that it wasn't actually a problem. i think i'll check some more of the discworld books out!
