Another book that didn't need to be 500 pages...

I love Pratchett's writing though, and his not-so-subtle-but-subtle-enough social commentary. As the blurb says, "the best man for the job may be a woman," and I loved the ongoing reveals vs. one big one all at once.

I'm always a sucker for a cross-dressing, Mulan/Alanna style war story. Made extra enjoyable in the audio version I listened to, which appropriately hammed up the vampire, troll and Igor accents. Pratchett's satire is a little more heavy-handed here than in other books though.
