A bit tough to hack through as it seemed to go quite slow in the middle. Interesting to see Vimes through a different lens, though.

Great read! Mulan but in a fantasy setting, but soon you learn there is more than one lady hiding amongst the group. The group grows and learns about their country and the political ties between other countries at war, discovering the religious flaws in their country's culture.

I adore this book. Fun, high energy, an absolute standout for Pratchett.

I do feel the end always feels a bit muddled and rushed, but considering the ongoing nature of most of his stories it makes sense, even if Monstrous Regiment is technically a standalone.

This was one of the first Discworld books I had trouble finishing. Our heroes have seen more than most even before we meet them, war is dark and cruel, and the history of belittling and erasing women still stings as much now as it did 20-plus years ago. I love where this book ends up, but it was a hard road to get there.
