Maybe this hit too close to home but I didn't get it. To me this was just aweful corporate communication that I see (and try to flee) in daily life often enough

SEVERAL PEOPLE ARE TYPING by Calvin Kasulke

Part satire, part comedy, and part SciFi horror, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this absurd story of marketing professionals. Their chats, and private messages were bizarrely entertaining.

Gerald’s consciousness gets sucked into Slack with only the Slackbot as company YET he *still* manages to get his work done?! That really IS the stuff of nightmares. The higher ups don’t care so long as the corporate productivity wheel keeps on spinning —poor Gerald.

If you have any experience with using Slack or similar shared online methods of office communication, you might enjoy this. I definitely don’t miss office politics or being an office drone. I do miss the drama.

[ Note: Highly recommend listening to the audiobook! The full cast performance/narration was great —I laughed out loud several times. ]

too many plot points weren’t sufficiently explored and explained. I also really enjoyed the format but to some extent it felt wasted on this story? A bit harsh but overall it satisfied my desire for a quick read but towards the second half of the book, I lost interest cause of how abstract everything was.

this was insane
also wtf happened to lydia

i feel like i was the intended audience for this one: self conscious about how work takes over our lives during late stage capitalism, fond of online chat logs, concerned with the impermanence of the internet, etc. in general i think this book is effective at delivering an unsettling and surreal (with funny moments) read that goes at a quick pace.

Finished the book in a couple hours. Cute story!
