Tears. Actual tears. This book was such a game changer for me. It is based on genuine research from both actual surveying and testing along with Scriptural exploration into the Greek itself and a return to the message of Christ on the identity of women instead of fixing the focus on sex. Furthermore, there were so many aspects of being in small-town SBC Kentucky that were detrimental in the exact way she described, and it helped me unpack a ton of physical, sexual, and emotional trauma that I didn't know how. I wish someone had even scratched the surface of telling me so much of what she had to say. I had to spend time like reparenting myself as a mentor described it, but it was so worth not feeling alone in my confusion and hurt anymore. It's so sweet knowing you aren't alone in so many questions. I hope every girls gets to read this!!!!!!

It’s rare for me that I find a non-fiction book this hard to put down! Maybe because it was so incredibly relevant to my own experience, or because the writing was concise and compelling, but either way, it was completely absorbing and engaging. All parents, Christian if not, would benefit from what this books articulates and clarifies for us about misogyny, sexual abuse, grooming, and so much more!

The descriptions of purity culture and its effects were sad and incredibly disturbing - but not surprising. And the authors present strong, well-worded arguments against all the toxic, unbiblical teachings so many of us have experienced. A must-read for all Christian women who either grew up with this crap or have responsibility toward teen girls in the church today.

This book is absolutely incredible.

As someone who was raised in purity culture, and is still trying to recover from the lies, the truths on these pages hit hard. I don't want my daughters subjected to the same lies, and I don't want my sons believing them either. When my own experiences sometimes cloud the clarity of what I want to communicate to my children in this area, I so appreciate how the authors broke everything down into simple talking points so it's easy to start addressing things, even with young children. And even though I've been wading through the purity culture lies for years, different chapters brought to light areas of my thinking that I definitely want to work more on so I don't unknowingly perpetuate the delusions to my children. I'm so, SO thankful for this book, and I know I'll come back to it again and again. I can't recommend it enough!
