Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was sort of slow/medium paced depending on what you look at. There was moments I would get frustrated with the characters, but I would also look at what was going on from their perspectives. This is my second Abby Jimenez book and I have to say it’s probably my favorite atm.

The two main characters' social anxiety and trust issues made the usual "misunderstanding" trope plausible and not silly.

This book was beautifully written, with tender moments and dynamic characters. I adore Jacob! I really appreciate the author’s efforts to write contemporary romances that aren’t tragic but still have emotional components and some trauma/personal growth required of the characters. Bri really bothered me though in the second half of the book because she was hyper fixating on one assumption she made and she disregarded everything else in front of her face. It made it harder to feel like she was still speaking Jacob’s language like she had earlier in the story. Overall, I loved this book, though parts of it ripped my heart out and I couldn’t get to the happy ending fast enough to recover emotionally.

This was amazing. Loved the mentions of Alexis & Daniel, the representation of kidney disease, anxiety, and trauma. The sexual tension and creative plot made this an exceptional romance. The themes of family, mental health, and medical settings were some of my favorite. Every character but especially Briana and Jacob were so real, felt like I was in this book, living this book while reading it. The reason I'm giving 4 stars and not 5, is because of the extremely frustrating miscommunication trope. I do think that Jimenez did it well in this book and I think you're supposed to be frustrated, but still doesn't mean I like the trope. Also I did not love one aspect of the ending. But won't mention it for spoiler purposes.

"This year was going to be my villain origin story"

I love Briana's diabolical pettiness; pouring glitter all over the house of her soon-to-be ex-husband (the ceiling fan!).

"My high road was currently under construction"

Jacob isn't the stereotypical male main character and I love him. I could relate to some of the ways he interacts with the world.

They are both real and vulnerable and the alternating voices made this both of their stories.

Abby Jimenez is a master.
