Abby is 2 for 2 - I got a little whiplash towards the end but i teared up so I rounded up. She does a great job at weaving the struggles with anxiety realistically into a light hearted rom com. I continue to enjoy the dual POV style too.

This was my final book of the summer, and it did not disappoint! I read Part of Your World a couple years ago, and I love how the stories are loosely connect and we get to see old characters pop up again.

I don’t read a ton of romance, but I love how Abby Jimenez’s books always have a layer of depth to them. Her characters are messy and complex which makes them feel real. I really like the portrayal of mental health and chronic illness in this story. I love Briana’s kind, compassionate approach to supporting those around her who are struggling with their mental health (for a variety of reasons). She is a model we should all strive to be.

Usually the miscommunication trope bothers me a little, but with the alternating perspectives in this book, it was so easy to see how events/situations could be misunderstood, especially considering past trauma and mental health struggles.

The audio for this one is fantastic! Similar to Part of Your World, both Briana and Jacob have their own narrator. I think this really adds something to the listening experience!

“We’re all a little broken. We are a mosaic. We’re made up of all those we’ve met and all the things we’ve been through. There are parts of us that are colorful and dark and jagged and beautiful. And I love every piece of you. Even the ones you wish didn’t exist.”

I really thought that this would end up being better than Part of Your World, based on the first 50%. Alas, that was not the case here. I really appreciate the personal touch that this book had, and the author's note that went with it. I really liked the main characters, Jacob and Briana. The struggles that they dealt with felt very realistic: the anxiety representation and the struggles that people feel when dealing with a chronic illness was portrayed very well. These elements of the book, along with the letter writing and the relationship development, were some of the reasons that I was expecting this book to be better.

Now, onto what I didn't like...
Because of the dual POV, we clearly knew that the two characters liked each other. There was so much miscommunication in this book (it dragged on a little too long for my liking), and it all could have been resolved so easily. They could have talked it out much sooner than they actually did. Jacob literally asked her out! And he got rejected because of a misunderstanding that Briana had when she saw him earlier!  They literally moved in together; she heard so many people saying that they were in love and once all of this got resolved, she conjured up another stupid third act conflict days before his kidney transplant! It made me mad - because I knew it was gonna be resolved within the next 30 or so pages anyways. I also thought the letters would have a bigger role to play in the story as well, but that kind of fizzled out about halfway through, and then made a sort of reappearance at the end when she read his journal.

Overall, this book had a cute first half, and a disappointing second half, which made the rating of this book lower than Part of Your World.
