this was a quick read and overall not bad. i don’t usually read doctor/medical world books so this was an interesting peak at that life + the struggles of people with kidney disease and social anxiety. the letter writing aspect was cute, honestly wish they were able to sustain it for longer but i get why they moved to texting and stuff lol.
honestly, what took this book down a notch for me was the unplanned pregnancy like i see why it happened because it lead to the more direct confrontation of briana’s trauma but like i wish there was a different plot device for this. in general im also not a fan of the whirlwind/super fast relationships but it didn’t necessarily bother me, it was more so the pregnancy thing. maybe if they had actually dated for a little longer but it was still in the months range of their relationship i would’ve liked it more?? part of what i think it is is that as a read i felt taken out of things a little when the pregnancy was thrown in and everyone was just like you love him so like yay it’s okay don’t be scared. like not one person seemed hesitant which seemed unrealistic lol

This was my first Abby Jimenez and I get the hyped. I listened to this on audio and I recommend reading it that way. It has a male voice actor and a female voice actor. Just the tone they use sometimes is how I would have said it in my head if I was reading it physically. The only reason it is not a 5 is because of the ending. I felt that it may have needed to be longer to just flesh out what happened. I felt it was rushed a little in the end and I wish there was more build up to the epilogue.

Predictable. Boring and rambling. Almost too cute.
Also, this is just my personal pet-peeve but how about we don’t end every single love story in a pregnancy and a wedding? Not wanting kids is not automatically a trauma response.

Truly one of the best books I’ve read in a while. It got me out of a reading slump, and I constantly am kicking my feet and screaming over interactions, you know it’s a good book. I also have a hard time with certain tropes such as a third act break up but guys. It’s so worth it. if this is on your shelf take it off and read it ASAP!!!

I think the first half of the book is significantly more enjoyable than the second, but throughout it maintains being a very cute book about finding love and love finding you.

Definitely liked this one better than The Friend Zone! The main characters felt more fleshed out and in tune with each other. However, lack of communication played such a big part in the angst of this book that it ruined it for me. I’d estimate about 25% of the plot would be unnecessary if that factor were removed, which is too much of the book for me. Lots of assumptions about what the other person wanted was made, even though they were generally good at communicating otherwise!
I’m glad that the characters (or at least Briana) went into solo therapy (I hope Luke did too but I didn’t hear that mentioned) because there was a lot of trauma in their lives to work through!!
I think the elevator scene was especially jarring to me; Luke had repeatedly shown himself to be kind and caring and deeply into Briana, but she all of a sudden decided he wasn’t based on seeing her shitty ex. And I get that you can’t logic your emotions into understanding, but WHEW it was a HUGE conflict that was resolved in like 3 minutes. It gave me whiplash.
I appreciated the author’s note at the end, learning about personal connections to plot points is always enlightening!
Also, the narrators of the audiobook were incredible! I don’t know if I would have enjoyed this book as much if they weren’t the narrators.
