A very descriptive depiction of historical events. The writer told how the characters felt/are instead of showing it through their actions which made reading it a bit tiresome for me.

Amazing read! Really could not put the book down. As always, I have a soft spot for historical fiction, but … oh-my-days … this is insanely good.

Enjoyed this sweet story about refugees from the Spanish civil war who migrate to Chile. It’s dark at times, but ultimately a beautiful story about family, love, and not giving up

I love all Isabel Allende but the pace of this felt a bit off and I wasn't as gripped as I usually am. But saying that it has all the classic Allende elements - love, war, exile, death. Her prose is stunning and you fall in love with her characters as always.

I love an epic family saga and no one does that better than Isabel Allende
