Reread: I still absolutely love this book. The way Audrey is able to bring the characters to life so much that you feel like you’re inside one of them is just amazing!

I love how Audrey is able to transform you into feeling like you know and understand the characters! It’s a skill some authors can’t grasp, but not Audrey. Every book I’ve read that she’s written I can connect to the characters.
I can’t wait to find the series!

I absolutely adored this new series from Audrey Carlan.

Resisting Roots captured me in the simplicity of well written work and intriguing characters.
Genevieve spoke to me on a human level. She is a twenty something just trying to make ends meet to provide for her 2 siblings after the tragic loss of their parents. Between styling hair, the yoga studio, baseball practice for her brother, her little sisters commitments, and just trying to get enough rest, Genevieve is running herself ragged.

In walks (limps) Trent to the yoga studio for rehab. He injured his knee during a game and he has to, in no uncertain terms, either attend and do yoga, or his contract will be in jeopardy. He has always floated through life and never really stayed committed to one person ever. Yet, Genevieve catches his eye in more than one way from her yoga mat.

Watching their journey and just getting to experience it was a blessing. Audrey did an amazing job with this story and I cannot wait for book 2!

Resisting Roots by Audrey Carlan

Narrated by Holly Chandler and Jacob Morgan

Erotic Romance. Standalone in a Series.

I grabbed Resisting Roots by Audrey Carlan on Audible when I found out it was going to be a Passionflix movie. I never even read the blurb. It began with the author telling us she was a yoga teacher in real life so her knowledge of yoga was extensive. And it was about a yoga teacher, something I haven't read before, so I was excited to listen.

Each chapter began with an explanation of chakras which in audio, just kind of made me zone out. Perhaps those parts would have been better in print because they are easy to jump over, but It felt like I was listening to a yoga textbook at times. But I was intrigued by a yoga story.

Trent Fox is a famous baseball player who tore his hamstring and is sent to yoga to rehabilitate. The yoga studio is located in a small area of Berkeley that is all new age shops and all the stores work together. When Trent visits the local stores, he flirts with all the pretty women. Then he gets to his yoga teacher, Genevieve, and then he fixated on her.

Genevieve (“Viv”) lost her parents and is raising her siblings in her parent’s house and trying to keep it together. Her teen brother is a baseball player and Trent is his hero, so Trent is invited into her life for him, but she doesn’t have time for romance. She teaches yoga, cuts hair, and has kids to take care of.

At first he was kind of a dick about the fact that she couldn’t make time for him, but when he realized the extent of her situation he got better and helped as much as he could. I started thinking he had potential when he gave her a nickname. I LOVE cute nicknames.
"I think I'd like that very much, gumdrop."
"Gumdrop?"
"Your lips are pretty and pink and look as sweet as candy. Reminds me of a pink sugarcoated cherry gumdrop. My favorite."

But I am going to be honest here, I never warmed up to Trent and honestly, I thought he was kind of a dick. He flirted with girls in front of her, and it just seemed like he only cared about getting his dick wet, he even said something similar at one point. The way he talked about women in general just skeeved me out, for instance, he often talked about her “big titties” and “juicy pussy”, or “juicy spot between her legs”, and he was an overly jealous ass.

But there were some really sweet times where he began to redeem himself, and let me tell you, yoga sex is HOT. There was A LOT of sex in this book, and there was a LOT of yoga. (There was also a lot of forms of the word “tit”). I bet the next book featuring the tantric yoga instructor will be totally hot. But there was definitely a sweet romance as well.
“Wherever you are is where I want to lay down my roots.”

Likes:

  • •Yoga Sex.

  • •I liked her a lot, and I liked all of the side characters.

  • •I learned a lot about yoga.

  • •Cute nickname.

  • •I really liked his character growth through the book.

Dislikes:

  • •I really did not like Trent. He flirted with other women, it seemed like he only wanted her “juicy pussy” and “big rounded titties”, he was jealous, he got mad when she couldn’t make time for him, I can go on…

  • •It was nice to learn a little about yoga, but there was a LOT in this, especially for audio. It kind of felt like a textbook at times.

  • •A little more sex than story.

The Narration:

The narrators were both fantastic, but I felt that the yoga stuff at the beginning really didn’t lend itself well to narration. I felt myself zoning out during that then having trouble getting back into it.

The Down & Dirty:

I wanted so much to love Resisting Roots, especially because it is going to be a Passionflix movie. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the story, I loved how unique it was, but I really didn’t like the hero. He seemed like all he wanted was “juicy pussy” and “big titties” and he kind of skeeved me out at times. Other times he was awesome and supportive, but I never got over the initial ‘eew’ from him. I loved the concept of all the yoga, but in audio form, it was way too much for me. Resisting Roots was a super sexy read, with one of the most memorable and unique sex scenes I have ever read, so let me tell you, it may be worth reading just for that, and I bet the next book, Sacred Serenity is even hotter, because I think it’s about the tantric yoga instructor.

Rating: 3 Stars, 5 Heat, 4 Narration.

liked the blurb and the beautiful cover so the book was sold for me.
The story itself builts on a really good general idea, with the whole injured athleet and yoga instructor theme. And I like the characters and their backgrounds too.
Where did it lost me? When it started to force down my throat all of the new age stuff really agressivly oh and the describing of almost every yoga pose through pages over and over again. The actual story, in wich not a whole lot of thing going ont o begin with, got lost among the descriptions and became boring. Reading this one was a real struggle for me. I think yoga is the do it not read about it kind of activity, at least not in this much detail.
In my opinion the book could have been stronger if its concentrated more ont he relationships between the various caharcters because those were really well created.

I have had Resisting Roots on my TBR for ages. I knew nothing about it, didn't read the blurb and continued to put it off because I didn't love the cover. More fool me because I thoroughly enjoyed Trent and Genevieve's story.

Trent has hit rock bottom due to a sports injury and his agent puts his foot down, drawing the line and books him in for Yoga classes. Trent never expects his Yoga instructor to be a 5'2, curvy, blonde bombshell ready to knock down any of his come ons.

My only snag would be Genevieve became very naive at the end when throughout she has been the pillar for her family, as being the sole provider for her siblings. This came as a shock because I loved how strong her character was. Trent is one fine specimen and he does not disappoint in the bedroom at allllll.

Das war übel.
Richtig übel.
Die Übersetzung war einfach mal unglaublich furchtbar!! Zumindest hatte ich dadurch was zu lachen. Ansonsten ging‘s hier um Sex der sich als insta-love tarnen wollte. Ohne Erfolg. Nichts sagende Protagonisten. Komische Satzstellungen die Trent komplett dumm dastehen lassen. Die Sexszenen waren zum schreien.... komisch! Also wie gesagt, zu lachen hatte ich was
Das war mein letztes Buch von der Autorin.

It's always a hit or miss for me when I read the first book of Carlan's series. Like with the Calendar Girl's serial, I absolutely devoured this book. I'll pick up the second one to see if I like it or not.

The best thing Audrey Carlan's ever done. I absolutely love bad boys heroes--and this one's a baseball player, meaning double the wicked and sexy trouble. Loved these two so much!

I really want to say 2.5 stars. First the time frame didn't really make sense sometimes. I felt like it was a week then a month then only a few weeks. I was so confused. I immediately was not of a fan of the overly macho dialogue. I don't know, it wasn't bad enough to not finish but some of that dialogue was so stupid.
