I got the first 3 volumes as part of a comics bundle through the Humble Bundle. I enjoyed it, although it's not perfect. You can tell English isn't the author's first language, and the main character tells you right away that there isn't really any conflict or drama, that it's just a romance. All that said, I think it gets better as it goes along. Vol. 3 was my favorite.

Love these two, the artwork is beautiful, and the story is perfect - equally sweet and sexy.

The comic is fresh and witty, cute as well - it becomes a simple story about a relationship starting between two people. It's only that they are into roleplaying. And it's quite cute.

Four stars because there are too many redheads and I lost track of what everyone does and does not. Too many characters that seem to go nowhere. Hooray for realism, but hopefully there will be something happening with the rest of them. Hopefully.

The series is still holding up. Basically I've read 1-5, I think the comic goes on after that but... 1-5 was what I was most interested in, and what worked the best for me. I read this back on like, DeviantArt and was happy to buy trades of it when they were available.

2.5 stars again...

I have such mixed feelings about this volume. I still enjoy the bdsm and relationshippy elements best - Ally and Lisa's growing feelings are cute and their insecurities and enthusiasm feel very real and enjoyable - but the perspective, at times, is simply unpleasant. The voice is mostly Lisa's, and yet with the exception of her scene in the bathroom, there are way too many scenes of men looking at women in a sexual way, instead of women looking at women - in a story that is purportedly about two girls falling in love with each other, and about their friends, not the other way round. I kept scowling more and more as the uncomfortable and gross scene with Alan progressed, and by the time we got to him getting so turned on by looking at the women in fetishwear that he had to go to the bathroom, my face was so disgusted I literally took a picture of myself for my records. And then the milk thing gave me gag reflex. (It's a particular pet peeve, and I honestly don't buy Lisa being so a-okay with Ally's horny ex hanging around sprouting erections while they're in the middle of afterglow, ugh. It's completely at odds with her overall characterisation as just coming to terms with being bi and generally being somewhat insecure about her sexuality in rl.)

And in addition to Alan objectifying Ally and Lisa, we have Cassie's husband making a comment about Cassie and Anne [is that her name?].

One other thing that bugs me is how similar some of the characters look. Lisa and Cassie, for instance, but also Lisa's boss and the tattoo artist. I literally thought they were one person for a moment.

(And I'd think it would really make more sense for Lisa to be the one choosing a safeword - but it seems like it was Ally who made it up? o_O)

And there were some grammar problems again, ugh the publisher should really pay attention to that, "an another" ffs.

Going back to the good stuff - I really like Lisa's explanations about bdsm. And the subplot about moving in together. But could we please drop the guys? :(

This review originally appeared on my blog, Books Without Any Pictures:
http://bookswithoutanypictures.com/2017/08/30/mini-review-sunstone-vol-3-by-stjepan-sejik/

I’m going to keep this review pretty short, as I don’t have much to say about Sunstone Vol. 3 that hasn’t already been said in my reviews of the first two volumes.

Quick synopsis of the series: Ally and Lisa are two women who meet online, become friends, and begin a BDSM relationship. Sunstone isn’t like the trainwreck that was Fifty Shades of Grey. It’s a more realistic portrayal of BDSM that focuses on trust, consent, and perhaps most importantly, fun.

Compared to the first two volumes, the third volume of Sunstone is a lot slower. We’re introduced to several new characters who don’t really *do* anything yet. It’s pretty obvious that it’s setup for something that’s going to happen later. It’s a lot of friends hanging out and people dropping by and now you’re acquainted with a new character, but that character hasn’t really done anything to advance the plot.

The one development that was really nice was seeing Ally and Lisa brave their awkwardness to take the next step in their relationship. During the last book, it was obvious that what started as a friends with benefits situation had evolved into an actual romance, but both characters were shy and afraid of losing what they had, and so neither one was willing to admit their feelings. It’s really cute to see them take that leap.

Overall, Sunstone Vol. 3 was still an enjoyable read, despite suffering just a wee bit from middle book syndrome, and I’m hoping to continue the series.
