Oh wow where to start…
I thoroughly enjoyed the process of reading this book. I loved the word building, references and technology aspect but so much fell short.
Our main character, Wade, felt very much like a person we know slim to nothing about. His personality doesn’t develop throughout the book and the end just felt like “Oh some stuff went bad but I was right in the end so it doesn’t matter.” I failed to feel a connection with him. I believe the author tried to make him a realistic, unlikeable character but there was no saving point for him. He is just a hateful character that had a “told you so” moment (which was completely bull.)
As stated before I loved the world building and felt like I was living in these worlds with our characters. Some of the scenes did feel repetitive as if it was the same thing over and over again with different characters.
I enjoyed the overall Artificial Intelligence taking over vibe but believe it was rushed and could have been better.
3/5 ☆
Want to reread the first book now :(:

Let's get something straight: from me.
* = DNF
** = Finished & Hated it.
*** = Finished, found it to be "not terrible." Won't recommend.
So that's where I'm at with this book.
To be clear, I liked the last book more than I should have because if all the nostalgia and things that I remember loving as a child built in. There were huge problems but it was still an enjoyable read.
This book had none of that. The challenges in the first book were tense and there was tension built for an epic quest. And the challenges themselves were interesting and super pop-culture-y.
This book is so boring, it's like reading the Simarilion.
There are some great one liners and a little action, but all the tension could have been prevented by Wade not being a dick, and maybe listening to the people he cares about, full stop.

I like how it has immersed with different videos games, other classics books and movies, pop cultures and so on. It’s very cool.
I highly recommend reading these two books, if you love all of the above.

The game of life chapter 2. Another gem of a book if you like SciFi and gaming. If you liked Ready Player One, you’ll enjoy #2 as well.
Cool plot (next phase of the Oasis) and fun ending (on the Vonnegut).

The first quarter felt like the narrator just telling me things instead of showing me things. Also the endless lists of pop-culture references and parentheticals to explain said references were more grating this time around. Gets a half-star bump-up to 2 stars for a Zoobilee Zoo name-check though.
