Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Might have to pick up some more Gray Man books again.

I really liked the way we saw The Gray Man come alive again in this book. I liked the first 2 books in the series, but was disappointed with the third. This one really did it for me! Action packed, full of surprises and some cold blooded action.

I liked that the author acknowledged Court's killing history as morally dubious through the character of Russ Whitlock. In other action thrillers, it sometimes seems like the protagonist can kill anyone without getting called out for it. It's sort of the difference between protagonist and antagonist. When the antagonist kills, he's a villain, but when the protagonist kills, he's a hero. In earlier novels of the Gray Man series, it felt like the author was trying to justify Court's murders by saying that it's either killing bad people or it's necessary evil. He is doing this sort of justification in this book as well but this time it gets called out by Dead Eye, Court's nemesis, as being morally ambiguous. Don't get me wrong, it's not a mature meditation on morality and ethics. But, atleast it's one or two steps ahead of the previous novels in the series. Apart from this, all the usual stuff in these kind of books like action sequences, tense face-to-face showoffs, fast pacing etc. are all on point. I thoroughly relished every aspect of this book and now I am very excited for the next one in the series.

I'm really enjoying this Gray Man series, and this book was certainly no exception. While I have, at times, taken issue with the particular narratives of certain books in the series, the one thing the author has done an exceptional job with is the character development of Court Gentry. I'm not sure whether it's the writing or the narrator's reading (probably a little of both), but Gentry's sardonic tone really leaps off the page. He's jaded and tough, but also still has a hint of humor in the way he responds to other characters and circumstances, which makes for a really fun read. And I'm a sucker for a good "spy versus spy" story where a protagonist goes up against someone with his own training and experience. This is one of the better books in the series, IMO.

Overall a good read. A tad bit too long for my taste but I pushed through to the end. This story is always full of action. The Gray Man eludes another rogue CIA agent "Dead Eye". But, they cross paths often and at times are allies. But, in the end only the stronger of the two will win. I haven't been disappointed with a Gray Man novel yet, and this one is a winner too.
