I likely wouldn’t have picked this up had it not been sent to me in a book box. Buuuut since I had it on the shelf I figured I’d give it a go and it turned out to be a quick and cute read! ☺️

I really enjoyed this little gem of a romance! I felt it was perfectly balanced in every direction. All characters felt very real and complex, and I liked the couple's push and pull together. This story excellently balanced the levity of a YA romance with the actual gravity of being queer and/or coming out in the US south (or US southern culture). The story also juggled a lot of messages, but they all worked together well; nothing got muddled or lost. While some were less important, the narrative reflected that and devoted just enough screen time as needed. I was also pleasantly surprised by the characters' physical relationship – yet again, I thought it struck a perfect balance of addressing the topic while remaining a YA story. Some of the concepts were a little cliche or twee but they were so well executed, I gobbled it up. Overall an excellent romance.
Graphic: Infidelity
Moderate: Classism, Homophobia, Lesbophobia, and Chronic illness
Minor: Sexual content
some minor homophobic jokes, a significant amount of internalized homophobia, and discussion of past internalized lesbophobiaann_is_reading1's review against another edition

A story about a wannabe country musician and the one whose life was ruined by country music. I was hooked based on the premise alone. Brian D. Kennedy tells a story of love, heartbreak, secrets, and a country musician theme park. I honestly enjoyed how wholesome this was, and had just enough drama to not leave anyone bored.

it does bother me, actually, that the author isn’t from the south at all and makes emmett, character from Not Tennessee, treat the south like some backwater side show for his entertainment and fame. each time i even remotely liked emmett he would screw it up and boom instant dislike again. i did like luke which may be because i have a thing for characters with issues. anyways. the only parts i even remotely enjoyed were luke (most of the time) and the ending but it did not make up for the sour taste in my mouth over the way the author treated the south
