It's hard to give The Book of Lists a rating. It and its sequels and their People's Almanacs sister books were voraciously read and reread in my childhood home, and were a pretty good supplemental education to an iffy schooling. On the other hand, looked at today it looks a little bit cheap and slapdash. Well, it was a hell of a lot harder to compile general information back in the day. Today, The Book of Lists looks like a B-list website. But, it might be possible that websites would look different today if the Book of Lists had never happened. It's like a little internet between two covers, with similar informative and time-suck capabilities.

The most interesting thing about looking back at it today, now that the internet is in full flower, is that it can be fact-checked. A lot of the stuff that seemed almost too good to be true, back in the day? Turns out it was!

This is something that you would read when you are bored. The stuff that they present is interesting and you can read any part of the book.

Exactly what it says on the tin. I'm an absolute list hound, so I rather enjoyed this book. Sure, there were some lists that I didn't care about and wound up skipping over, and a few that started out good but started to bore me with too many similar stories. But overall I liked it, and I learned a few fun things along the way, too. That's always a plus.
