This book was really really good. I read it in under 24 hours. It was easy and compelling, and I'm not usually one to get fully invested in first-person narratives. It felt very real and true and while I'm twice the age of the protagonist, a lot of what he was thinking and going through (mental health struggles, loss of connection with his father, having no real friends/support as a teen, struggling to find his place with his extended family he didn't grow up with, dealing with a terminally ill grandparent) felt very much like things I have and am going through. I think that speaks to the rawness of the writing and the themes transcending ages.

YA lately feels very over saturated and like it's lost its meaning of being about helping teens feel seen and heard but this definitely hit the mark.

My heart! This is such a sweet, unexpected book. I didn’t think I would love it so much but Darius really endeared himself to me and I really enjoyed his exploration of identity, family, and mental health. It was soooooo good!
