It was an easy read that hooks you in with the Knives Out-style murder mystery.

This is a decent murder mystery with magic elements. It's a short and quick read with twists that's overall enjoyable.

I really liked the concept of this book but some of the execution flopped
• it was too YA for me which isn’t the book’s fault but I wanted it to be darker and friskier
• it’s too long like 2-3 chapters could be ✂️
• it felt like we had a 5th grade vocab list at the beginning of the book bc there were like 6 words/phrases that the author used over and over and it was so distracting “opaque, pray tell, etc”
• hearing “unhinged” more than once as a way to describe someone really cemented this book in the early 2020’s
• also really dislike the way the narrator breaks the fourth wall like that style of writing feels like bumper cars
but like the overal concept and plot were good !!

What to say about this book… I didn’t like most of it.
My favorite part of this book was the last couple chapters.
I literally only got invested with the characters and story during the last 4 chapters….
There’s a lot of conversations that happen in this book that make me think a 12 year old wrote them. Or maybe AI?
All of the characters just interacted strangely in like 85% of the book and then the last 15% it was like an actual human was writing and everything sounded normal.
I also guessed the killer right away in the beginning… so that took a lot of the fun mystery aspect away for me.
But if you want a really really basic mystery with a smidge of fantasy and insufferable characters…I guess this book might be for you.
