Very haunting and well written throughout. I started this book back in January and had to put it down due to my lack of free time, and then I had trouble picking it back up because of the very heavy themes throughout. That being said, it was still beautifully constructed - I loved the way Hosseini writes Amir's specific memories, paying so much detail to the visual and emotional qualities of the time - it was cinematic! I also liked how he often wrote in chunks Within his chapters - small paragraphs that delivered a fragment of an interaction or a memory or a dream but had a larger meaning or implication delivered within it that kinda makes you sit back and ... think and process. I'm glad I finally got to finish this book and I'm determined to get back into reading again!!

‘For you, a thousand times over’. I’ve literally stained this book with my tears from weeping so profusely. Hosseini has such a gift for storytelling. This was almost impossible to stomach at times but yet such a gripping and moving story that will remain with me for a very long time.

This book left a mark on my soul. Read it years ago and still the graphic nature of the prose gripped me, an overwhelming read.

Very difficult to like the main character for the majority of the book. Lots of tragedy, and just when it seems to be getting better, everything gets worse. It’s reflective of life, and there’s no “perfectly happy” ending.
