2,5 ⭐️—Colleen Hoover’s books are usually emotional and romantic, but this one turned out to be a whole different experience—and honestly, way too dark for my taste.
From the moment Lowen enters Verity Crawford’s house, the story grows heavier and heavier, and the manuscript she discovers is disturbing in a way that made me deeply uncomfortable. It wasn’t the kind of tension that kept me excited—it was the kind that made me want to put the book down. I know some readers love that spine-chilling, twisted psychological edge, but for me it crossed into territory that felt unsettling rather than enjoyable.
By the time I reached the end, I just felt drained. The ambiguity might be clever, but paired with how graphic and uncomfortable the rest of the book was, it didn’t land well with me.
If you enjoy dark thrillers that really push boundaries, this might be up your alley. But if you’re like me, and prefer suspense with a little less shock value and a little more heart, Verity probably won’t be the book for you.

This book was an absolute page turner. It will have you tethered to it’s twisted plot until you either pass out or finish it. It’s creepy and chilling and I say that as someone who is rarely creeped out by a book. Read it. Now. Thank me later.
