My god this was terrible. Contains such gems as, after a reverend says that he cannot help the main character, "Once again, dazed by betrayal and heartbreak, I stumbled back down the path" - I mean, really? The whole book is like this. Absurd and melodramatic.
3.5/5
A good different kind of thriller with some humour and relatable characters thrown in. It’s the first book I’ve read by this author. I liked his style and it was full of twists and fit together well in the end. The middle dragged a bit but I think if I would have known the ending I would have enjoyed it more as all the different minor storylines had me a bit lost until I knew how they were tied together. Happy with the ending, not superb but worth a read.

Not good. Not good at all.
Could not tolerate the protagonist. As the story went on, I hated the protagonist more and more. The story ticked all the boxes of a shoddily assembled 4 star IMDB rating movie.
1. Mention of FBI - check
2. Don’t trust the police - check
3. Romance that doesn’t make sense - check
4. Fighting abilities appearing out of nowhere - check
5. Learning how to tail people by magic - check
6. Dodging bullets - check
7. Betrayal - check
8. Jumping through windows - check
9. Protagonist making questionable decisions throughout - check
And many more. I still cannot make any sense of the story. If the protagonist behaved like a normal human being - I guess there wouldn’t be a story to write?
Many elements in the story such as the murder in between don’t add any value to the overall plot of the story. They are subplots that are stapled onto the main story without much in the way of continuity.
Every mention of hopeless (or should I say dumb?) romanticism is followed with some variation of “it sounds corny but it’s true”.
Unless you are in the mood for a hodgepodge of fast-paced questionable decision-making with unrealistic romance, drug cartels, mafia, and the FBI, I’d recommend that you skip this one.

Dear HC,
Oh Harlan. You know you're my favorite author. But I have to admit, I was sorely disappointed with this one.
Don't get me wrong; you sucked me in with the first 100 pages or so of the novel. But it just got to the point where I wanted you to find this mysteriously perfect, love of your life Natalie. I wanted to love her like you did. I only got glimpses of past lovingly things.
Why did she have to wait so long to make an appearance? Why did it take so long to find her?
And excuse me, what was the time frame that you haven't spoken to Natalie? Six years. When was the last time you heard from her? Six years. Seen her? Six...years. So...you haven't seen her since when? SIX YEARS! Oh. I see.
Seriously? I get it. The title was perfectly chosen because you just had to say it ONE MORE TIME.
Like a true Coben fan, I feverishly read through it, burning the pages as I go, because I was reading so fast. I have to admit that I did have to set it down to go to sleep, even though I really didn't want to. (Work gets in the way of life/reading sometimes.)
Alas, I was not as satisfied as I usually am with your novels. I feel like the pursuit of the chase, the "foreplay" if you will, was so long and tiring, that the "climax" was just a dudd.
You did however cuddle afterwards, in the sense that, you wrapped it up nicely with a bow.
Not your best; I've had better. But you will always be my favorite.
Yours always,
Michelle
P.S. Please go to back Myron and Win. At least let Win have more of a spotlight in Mickey's life. And not just a pop in, save the day kind of situation. Win deserves to shine, especially all that he sacrificed.

This is my first ‰ЫПreal‰Ыќ review. Please tell me where I go wrong and how I can improve. Thank you!
Six Years, Mystery/Thriller, Harlan Coben
Six Years kicks off with the main character, Jake Fisher, at a wedding. The problem? The wedding is between the love of his life, Natalie Avery, and her old boyfriend, Todd Sanderson. At the wedding, Natalie convinces Jake to promise her that he will leave her and Todd alone. Fast forward Six Years. Jake stumbles across Todd Sanderson‰ЫЄs obituary and the repressed emotions towards Natalie are surfaced. Jake decides to attend the funeral from a distance, unsure whether or not he is ready to reconnect with Natalie or, for that matter, if she is even open to it. At the service, Jake strains to find Natalie in the crowd. Jake finally stumbles on the wife, but she‰ЫЄs not Natalie. Confused and torn, Jake begins his search for Natalie except the only clues he has to go on are from their summer vacation fling six years ago. To make matters worse, nobody in the town they vacationed at remembers Natalie and the retreat she stayed at supposedly never existed. Jake encounters gunmen also looking for Natalie, which causes him to race to find her before they do her any harm, while Jake‰ЫЄs best friend questions whether Natalie, or the gunmen, even exist outside of Jake‰ЫЄs mind.
I understand there are many people disappointed with this book. It‰ЫЄs the first Harlan Coben book I‰ЫЄve read since middle school. So, maybe I don‰ЫЄt know better, or maybe I am just simple minded; I found myself hooked on this book from page one. I found the majority of the characters credible, but I did have a hard time with Natalie.
In the end, I really enjoyed this work. Coben kept me guessing and my guesses were often wrong. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys a lighter mystery.

Spoiler
My first problem is that if she was involved with Fresh Start, she probably wasn‰ЫЄt keying into the events that happened around Jake‰ЫЄs life. That said, she could be like Jake‰ЫЄs best friend and keep watch, but, even then, she wouldn‰ЫЄt have been able to send him an email from an email address that doesn‰ЫЄt exist ‰ЫТ especially if she‰ЫЄs as computer minded as Jake. Yeah, yeah, there are ways to do it. Putting that aside, the likelihood that she was not only in the same place as Jake (at the cabin), but that she was also an expert marksman is pretty weak.In the end, I really enjoyed this work. Coben kept me guessing and my guesses were often wrong. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys a lighter mystery.
