Much like the rest of Coben's books. Really good, a bit hard to believe, but still very well written and very entertaining.
Six years ago, Jake, a poli-sci professor, watched the love of his life (who he'd only been seeing for 3 months over the summer natch) marry another man and he'd promised her that he'd never look for her. When he sees her husband's obituary though, he decides 'screw that promise, I'm going to go to the funeral of my rival and help the love of my life/summer romance pick up the pieces.'
What follows is a pursuit filled with secrecy, intrigue, murder and everything in between, none of which seems to actually faze this supposedly-law-abiding professor. In other words, this is all highly improbable and totally unbelievable, so the only way you can really enjoy this book is if you promise from the start to ask NO questions at all - in fact, leave your brain at the door - because trying to inject a skerick of reality into this romp is pointless.
This is a fun, rainy weekend read - it really won't take you longer than that (I doubt it took the author much longer to write).

Picked this book up on a whim and loved will definitely be checking out more books by this author.

I debated between a 3 and a 4. Not bad, but probably my least favorite of all of his books. A good quick read, but not the usual twists and turns he usually has.
There was just more I didn't like than I liked here, though I was interested in the story enough to keep reading. I was one step ahead of Jake in figuring out the mystery. The love story felt totally cheesy and unbelievable. Six years pining after one another after only knowing each other three months? Really? The academic details were not based in fact, but that was overshadowed by the other outrageous details. And finally, I just really did not like Jake. I mean, I know his irreverent nice guy shtick is Harlan Coben's thing, but Jake just came off like a selfish jerk. How many times do people tell him he's going to get everyone killed and yet he keeps digging? Ugh.
