What a great book to end the year! This historical fiction novel brings to light the sad truth of what many leprosy patients experienced. The story immediately tugged at the heartstrings when introducing the main character, Mirielle West, and her diagnosis of leprosy. From there begins her journey into her “new” life. Recommended by my twin sister who received an ARC of the book, I was not disappointed. Amanda Skenandore https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/9073938-amanda-skenandore

This was one that made me stay up past midnight for several nights just to find out what happens next.
I love the dialogue that reminds us of each character's origins and their multi-dimensional personalities. The story progressed well and never had a boring moment.
I feel like if it was just a little longer, I would give it 5 stars. I couldn't forget a few characters that never got a longer story or proper ending (mainly the Clara Bow look-a-like, the way she was introduced made me think we'd see more of her + Gloria), though the epilogue was wonderful and gave answers for Mirielle's future.
The author chose this point in American health history that I believe most people don't know of, making this book especially memorable and worth recommending.
