This book was stark and depressing, as it needed to be. It was interesting to read about the LA leper colony. I've read about the Molokai colony before, and that book (Moloka'i) was very good. Skenandore did a good job here in this book.

I had trouble putting this book down. I liked that the main character grew and changed through the story. It was good to learn about this disease and its treatment in the early 20th century. A good read!
