I don't read graphic novels very often - I find I power through them so fast that I don't take time to appreciate the artistry involved but this was beautifully drawn and a fun paced adventure. There's nothing you haven't seen before in fantasy but you wouldn't have to have watched Critical Role to get stuck in, which I liked.

As someone who has only watched the animated series (and had her wife explain - in detail - campaign one), I was excited to see what ultimately brought the crew all together. And that's what this does: it shows the start of the group that will become known as Vox Machina.

As someone who much prefers a visual sort of storytelling, this was immensely easier for me to read and follow than listening to an actual play. And, amazingly, the writers got the personality of each charater down perfectly. As always, Trinket is the best boy, and I enjoyed seeing Vex slowly start to open up and widen her circle of trust when speaking with Keyleth.

Solid read, perfect for fans of the series.

Honestly, I'm glad to start my year off with my favorite D&D misfits. I love Vox Machina and getting to see the beginning of their adventure is amazing. Plus, the artwork is beautiful.
