2.5 stars! That was ok! Liked the friendship, the romance was not my cup of tea but it was fine

This is definitely my favorite book of this compilation series so far! Rainn has been one of those consistent side characters in the series that shows up every once in awhile and I really wanted to learn more about it.

I found the premise of the book to be really interesting. I’ve never read a book with a man questioning their sexuality and I felt like the author did a great job with exploring all of the different facets of that experience while still maintaining the romance. I loved Whit and Rainn, how their friendship slowly developed into a romance into a full blown relationship. I think they complimented each other really well and pushed each other when it was necessary. The whole story was really well developed and made me completely fall in love with the romance!

My first Finley was a total success!

The premise is simple. Newly out and proud hockey player is determined to not be a virgin by his 22nd birthday. He somehow gets a straight former hockey player to help him out, become his friend, and by his totally wholesome winsome charm works his hoodoo voodoo on him and they fall in love.

Admittedly, not very plausible at all but this is fiction and one must go with the flow right? Whit is seriously the most guileless guy, all eager puppy with very little finesse and knows he’s a complete idiot to fall for Rainn. He just can’t help it. Rainn on the other hand feels just a tad bit sorry for Whit and gradually, he can’t help but be won over by Whit’s kind genuine nature…. among other things. Though Rainn’s supposed to help Whit with his “goals”, deep down he really doesn't want Whit accomplishing any of them unless it’s with him.

So ensue some snarky funny banter - the real boon of this book is the dialogue in my opinion. There’s a bit of angsty self examination in coming out and figuring out what to do in life but plenty of smexy to whet most appetites.

A really fun, mostly easy romance that will make me strongly consider Finley’s other works when I need that occasional contemporary detour!

I just finished book 3 of the Vino & Veritas series by Eden Finley. Classic Eden Finley vibes were evident throughout – funny, romantic, and relatively light. The story revolves around Rainn, an ex-hockey player living in suspension after an injury. He's bitter, estranged from his family, and stuck working at the Vino bar and Veritas bookstore in a small town. Enter Whit, a university hockey player passionate about farming.

The humor kicks in when Rainn, a straight guy, gives gay hook-up tips to the virgin Whit. Their close friendship develops, with Rainn unable to explain his strong connection to Whit. Whit, in turn, falls for Rainn, though he knows it's complicated. Rainn's exploration of his sexuality leads to a deepening connection, and eventually, they confront their needs and desires.

While something felt missing, the story was better than previous books in the series, earning it a solid 4 stars.

Rainn and Whit might be my fave MCs of the series so far. The banter & golden retriever energy was high, but fit my current mood perfectly!
