Had a really great time reading this. Great follow to Spice Road.

'Serpent Sea' is the second book of the 'The spice road' trilogy. The story continues right from where the first book left things and this time around is less of a quest and more of a 'Hunger Games'.
Overall, it is an enjoyable book, full of adventures and a nice lore. However, there were some things that this time didn't work for me, such as the romance, which was questionable at times, especially since Taha couldn't be redeemed for me. Also, the adventures didn't feel cohesive and they followed one another in lighting speed.

I had high expectations for this because I loved the first book so much. I will say the ending was great — it surprised me and the themes explored are exceedingly relevant. I enjoyed Imani’s arc while she reckons with her privilege even as she fights against the colonization of her home. For most of the book, though, the plot seemed to drag and I had a hard time getting into it. I liked getting more Taha pov, but that being written in third person while Imani’s chapters were in first person threw me off. I do think this did a good job of setting up the last book, so I can forgive it for being a bit dense and plot-heavy. This is definitely an author to watch and I’m excited to she what she does after this series.

I still am grumpy with Taha, and Qayn both. Imani is a badass FMC and the story is very reminiscent of other similar types. I really enjoy the use of common tropes in this series and will wait patiently for the next book. I sort of expected a little second book syndrome but was pleased to know it was actually pretty amazing!!
