A beautiful book that weaves myth, legend, and immortals together in one book whilst recreating classic Chinese historical drama and wuxia.

You have a strong protagonist with Xingyin whose only goal is to help her mother. Nothing is as easy as she has to evade discovery from the Celestial Majesties and keep her identity a secret.

The romance in this book is brilliant; it had me swooning the first time, and the reread was no different.

I love this book. It combines everything nostalgic that I love about Chinese dramas with a fresh retelling that is vivid and engaging. It's very readable and the characters are well-rounded. It's an extremely solid start to a brilliant duology.

The third act is really strong, and I liked a lot about this! Unfortunately, the romance plot wasn't for me and it detracted from my enjoyment of the characters.

This did not live up to my expectations. I really wish that I liked this more than I did, but there were too many time skips and difference in locations, jumping from one thing to another for there to really be any cohesive thought process from me. I don’t know how this could be turned into a duology. Too much happened in this book, way too much. The only thing tying everything together was Xingyin’s quest to free her mother from her prison on the Moon. That was the only thing tying everything together. Then you add in the love triangle between the two main MMCs, ugh. These two men you jump off of a cliff for all I care.
