An acceptable wrap up

An acceptable wrap up

Enders provides an adequate wrap up to Starters. The plotting is still a little weak but the basic concept holds pretty steady.

Good, but not as good as the first one.

The ending was really good, I liked it. I would have like at least some romance, but I life the concept. It was still a little confusing though with all this chip business, I feel like it wasn't talked about in detail, it was rushed over. Good plot twist, and fast moving. I did enjoy it.

I have been looking forward to reading Enders from the minute I finished reading Starters in 2012. I was super excited to get a copy of Enders for review, and I absolutely love the cover, in real life her face is really creepy ;).
When I made a start on reading Enders I was looking forward to jumping back into this world again, and even though I did a re-read of Starters to get caught up, I still found myself struggling to get into Enders. I wanted more of what we got in Starters instead I felt like the story for Enders cruised along, with the occasional blip on the radar to make it interesting.

I liked the characters, and it was interesting to see some old faces, but also meet a lot of new Metals like Callie. To me the most interesting person is Hyden, and that is only because a lot of himself is kept a mystery and he only reveals enough to keep Callie helping find other Metals. He also has a lot of his own secrets, one of them is revealed later on in the book and was not what I expected at all.
Callie didn't seem like Callie to me, she is annoying and doesn't really think things through before acting on them, even down to getting Michael was a silly mistake. Her constant flipping between liking Michael and Hyden made me want to shake her and tell her to choose, she gives off the impression she has feelings for Michael, but puts him in the 'brother zone', she initially doesn't like Hyden, but wants to kiss him and touch him (this is not what you think, and comes across better when you know about Hyden)

While I didn't love Enders, I did think it was OK, and there was obviously something there to keep me reading. However the ending didn't feel like an ending, and I felt like there is a lot more to tell about what happens next, it didn't really end on a final note.

3.5 stars - I had to finish the series and the ending was satisfying. Part two wasn't as fascinating to me as part one. I believe I would have felt differently if I had read this immediately after finishing the first book. My students love the series.
