This is a free thought flow poetry book by the genius poetess that is Rupi Kaur. As a desi woman myself some of the poems hit hard and were really close to home. In the similiar manner Rupi Kaur talks about some heavy topics and her life story in a beautiful and clear way yet does not compromise depth.

I read this after a pretty painful breakup, it made me cry and made me recognize my worth. I hope to be strong enough to be patient.

This was very hard for me to rate considering that I don’t read much poetry. I understand that Kaur was being honest and reflective about experiences with sexual trauma/assault. However, I really didn’t appreciate nor enjoy reading about it considering that at the end of each poem theres ‘no hope’ to get out of these situations. Like it seemed that these rapists had no accountability for their actions and got away with it. It just made me feel very empty and defeated (poetry is suppose to bring you emotions… however feeling depressed after the end of each poem isn’t exactly something I’m wanting here ykwim?). There were too many poems on cruelty and trauma instead of women empowerment and self-love (which was the reason I actually picked up this collection of poetry in the first place). Overall, I guess it’s okay but I’m probably not going to read more of Kaur’s work.
