I wanted to read this for banned books week, but early-book Harriet is just too horrid. I know the change of heart is supposed to be a big part of the plot, but I'm done.
I haven't read this book in years. A book that gives you a lot to think about. It was a fun little read.

A delightful little reread, laugh out loud funny. I’ve kept a journal since the second grade and I think Harriet is a big reason why. ☺️
Wish I would have read this as a child.
Read this in bits and pieces w/a bunch of precocious first-graders, which was delightful. Love the humor, and clever observation.
I read this about 40 years ago and it encouraged me to stay curious and to write things down. I loved it as a kid!
As an adult, I wonder if I've become too sensitive? I really struggled with how mean Harriet is. I kept thinking that she's just a bully and the adults around her are allowing it (encouraging it?) to continue.
I loved Ole Golly and her influence on Harriet.

harriet m. welsh is a rich bully and not a feminist icon! she does not ever apologize!
I wanted to be her. My spy notebook was never as exciting as hers though. It's hard to peek through windows in the suburbs.
i reread this last summer. guess what? still awesome.
