This was my favorite book ages 9-12. It's smart, wickedly funny, and doesn't talk down to you. I loved the main character Harriet, who is an introverted writer AND ALSO adventurous. So often the introverted writer girl in kids' books is also shy and sweet. Harriet is anything but sweet. For a precocious kid with a dark sense of humor, she is breath of fresh air.

What a wholesome book to read during this chaotic time. The narrator plays different roles very well and the characters are so vivid that I could see them.

Harriet makes loads of observations and writes them all down. Unfortunately they fall into the hands of her peers and well things must be handled. We really enjoyed this book and the discussions that came.
