4.5 stars. I loved this book. That is saying a lot, because while reading it, I realized that I do not really enjoy exorcism horror. I feel like it all follows similar storylines and tropes. This book does, to a point, but it does so much more beyond it that it redeems itself. So much commentary on mental illness, toxic masculinity, generational trauma, and more. I am still really not sure how I am interpreting the ending. Was Marjorie possessed?

I think Paul Tremblay has made a horror fan out of me. By blending known horror tropes with social commentary, he has created a horror story that is all too real and terrifying - and leaves my mind turning over the story in the best ways. Whether you enjoy horror or not, read this book (and Cabin at the End of the Woods)!

mm.. i don’t know what to think about this one. I enjoyed the twist, but i felt like i needed more from the story and i just didn’t get it. it was pretty spooky though!

I’m a bit of a genre-reader—horror novels are my jam—and it’s been a long time since a book legitimately scared the hell out me. The final 50 or so pages left me sweating with a hollow feeling in my stomach. Absolutely unexpected; *will* be thinking about it for days. Would totally recommend.
