This is a straight with a gay BFF book, so it is not something I would classify as LGBT since our MC is not. As for the rest of the book, what was the point? It meanders along the incident, but it feels as if this happened to m,e no emotioal tug there. Characters, with the exception of James, are just unlikable. It just bored me. The narrator's accent was easy to understand, the setting of this book is Ireland, but still no emotional punch to the words.

Aggressively average. I'm not sure what the main point of the story was.

I understand why people say this book is good for fans of Sally Rooney. Like Rooney's books, this book is very Irish, very Millennial, and has very morally gray main characters who you inevitably root for. It also puts messy and complicated relationship dynamics at the forefront of the story. However, O'Donoghue's book feels less nihilistic than Rooney's work, which also (ironically) makes it a bit less poignant for me.
