I absolutely adore this series and I was not disappointed with this installment in it! I finished it in two days! I would definitely recommend reading A Shadow in the Ember from the Flesh and Fire series before this one because there are a lot of references and callbacks made to ASITE that help further the reader's understanding of certain things in The War of Two Queens. Jen totally outdid herself and made me love my favorite characters even more than I did initially and gifted me a few new favorites, while simultaneously making me hate my least favorite characters more than I thought possible. I'm so excited to see where the series goes from here and I'll definitely be re-reading this in the meantime!

I’m going with 2.5 stars on this one & here’s why
GOOD
- Reaver, love him
- Malik’s story is very interesting
- Millicent plot twist is cool
- Glad to have Cas back
- Blood Queen was a great villain
BAD
- The constant “actually turns out Poppy isn’t *this* she’s THAT” is getting so tiresome.
- Was absolutely not a fan of how Kieran & Poppy caught feelings while their best friend/heartmate was off getting tortured. Felt wildly out of character (& out of pocket) for the two of them to build that type of intimacy without Cas’s presence.
- Took too long to get to Cas’s rescue, feels like we could have trimmed away some of that & I would have had a much better time overall.
- The Joining was underwhelming. We knew it was going to happen & I’m not mad at how it played out but it was just not as exciting/beautiful as I thought it would be. There was a clear build up for this scene & I just don’t think it hit the mark.
- Post-Joining I am very unclear on the dynamic of their relationship now & that sort of sucks after having such a strong main couple throughout the series. It’s like the 3 aren’t romantic but clearly are? Idk. I don’t think bringing Cas back just to seemingly hop into a throuple is what I wanted as a reader. It felt really, REALLY rushed.
- The world building is insane & I sort of just gave up figuring it out. It’s not that I think it’s technically all that complex if you really dive in but I just don’t think it’s presented clearly to make sense to a reader & at this point I don’t care enough to try because I feel like it changes every 4 chapters anyway.

Jakie jest Wasze książkowe guilty pleasure? Ja do swoich zaliczam serię "Z krwi i popiołu" autorstwa Jennifer L. Armentrout.
"Wojna dwóch królowych" to kolejny tom serii, w którym rozgrywane są dalsze losy Poppy i Casteela. Próbują oni zawalczyć o swoje królestwo i nie dopuścić złych sił do wygrania wojny.
Rozpoczynamy książkę w momencie, w którym główni bohaterowie są rozdzieleni. I według mnie to jest jedna z lepszych rzeczy, które autorka mogła zrobić tej serii. Dzięki temu nasza główna bohaterka, zmuszona do samodzielności, nabiera wreszcie należytego charakteru. W końcu można powiedzieć, że staje się królową. Również postać Kierana zyskała na tym bardzo dużo, gdyż wreszcie wyszedł z cienia swojego króla. Jedyny bohater, który niestety na tym stracił jest sam Casteel. Mam wrażenie, że dodanie jego perspektywy było dobrym pomysłem, ale już wykonanie wypadło trochę gorzej. O tyle o ile rozumiem, że większość jego myśli zajmuje Poppy, tak brakowało mi jego przemyśleń na temat ich aktualnych problemów i walki z własnymi traumami.
W moim odczuciu pierwsza połowa książki wypadła dużo lepiej, choć muszę przyznać, że samo zakończenie również spełniło moje oczekiwania. Stało się tak dlatego, że w połowie akcja dużo bardziej zwalnia, a my śledzimy to co dzieje się w głowach bohaterów, przez co tempo jest raczej nierówne.
Co ciekawe całkiem podobała mi się "główna" pikantna scena, a to dlatego, że napisana została ze smakiem, skupiając się na emocjach bohaterów. Porównując ją z pozostałymi miałam wrażenie, że pisała ją zupełnie inna osoba.
