Emily Gravatt creates wonderful illustrations. The text is short for young listeners. It also focuses on opposites - tough and soft, shabby and chic, etc. Dog attributes are focused on in the story, but the endpapers offer illustrations with the actual dog name underneath. The narrator reveal at the end also adds a humorous little twist.

My daughter picked this book out herself from her school library. They have it once a week. It was a cute read that talked about different dogs. Her favourite is the poodle which she will tell you haha. Not too much else to say. Ohh that illustrations are very lifelike.
We would recommend this to everyone.

A good book to use with kids when talking about opposites or making comparisons. But I especially loved discovering the unexpected narrator at the very end.

For: dog fans; readers looking for a silly book about the love of dogs.
Possible red flags: some misbehaving pups.

My 20-mo-old son adores this book. (maybe because he adores dogs?) He likes to fill in the blank for me about the type of dog in the picture (hairy, tough, fast...). It's a very simple idea with simple words, so probably wouldn't be too interesting to elementary kids, except for the last page punch-line (Typical for Gravett books), but I could be wrong about that.
