I'm getting way too interested and invested with these Green Lantern stories. Look at all the questions I've written down for my friend to answer. I was writing all of these down while I was waiting for my prescription glasses and sipping my Starbucks frappe.

And mind you, this was me not even halfway through the volume.

I was a bit worried, at first. There were a lot of things mentioned that I had no clue what it was about. I was about to chuck this and not continue with it anymore. Good thing I kept reading because questions were definitely answered as you go through further into the story. Although, I would have to say I wasn't a fan of how some of the things were told. It was too... expositiony? Is that even a word? Okay. How can I explain this properly? Hal's past was told by Hal himself as stuff was going on simulataneously. There were some parts where you see what happened, but mostly, there was just Hal telling you about stuff you've missed. I would have wanted to see it, not just be told that this is what happened. Does that make sense? It should because I dunno how else to explain it.

I didn't expect the villain though because I thought it was going to be someone else. Did I like the villain here? I dunno. Maybe. I feel where his anger was coming from. He said he forgave Hal, but he was also punishing him for his crimes. They said the best type of villain is the one that thinks he's right. This guy falls under that. I'm just not particularly fond of him because despite me understanding why he did the things he did, I just felt it's a bit shallow. He ended up killing quite a number of people because he was upset? Really? Tsk tsk.

The thing about Green Lantern that I love the most is how there are a lot of stories to tell. They have an infinite number of galaxies to discover, alarmingly huge number of alien lifeforms that they have to fight to maintain peace within the galaxy. I can't wait to read the next one!

This was one of the last GL books I needed to complete Geoff Johns's run on the series. I finally read it and it filled in so many gaps in my GL knowledge! I also really appreciate how long Hal stays feeling guilty about what he did as Parallax. Most stories like that show the character feeling guilt for only a short while, but Hal's still at it over a year later (in-universe time).

This series continues to delight my inner nerd/child. Just beautiful. I feel I've regained something I lost. Weird to feel that way about comic book, I understand. But still, awesome. Recommended if you're remotely interested in men and women in cool superhero costumes, big glowy fight scenes and vast and beautiful drawings of other planets and outer space.

This book treads water around Infinite Crisis. None of the stories are really important to Johns's run on the series, they just have character moments that keep them from being completely dull. You get a two-issue team up with Green Arrow where they each get trapped in a simulation of their ideal lives, and you get a team up with Batman against an updated tattoo man. Neither story is great. Then there's a splash page letting you know that Inifnite Crisis has taken place, and we're a year in the future, which happened to all the DC books at this time.

The latter half is Hal trying to redeem himself to the guardians and the new Green Lantern Corps for his crimes when he was Parallax. It's fine. I guess it's a necessary beat in the Hal Jordan redemption story arc, but I really didn't care what the lanterns or guardians thought, and the villains being tied into Infinite Crisis didn't excite me for future stories.

This isn't a bad book, but it's unnecessary to the buildup to Blackest Night.

....OR "Hal teams up with Ollie a bit and then bucks the system."

"I suppose he was seeking out your assistance."
"K-k-kill Him. I will KILL Hal Jordan!"
"Or NOT."

The first half of this book features Mongul, Black Mercy, a strained and short-lived Batman teamup (that was fun to read), and a really awesome appearance by the Tattooed Man.

THEN, we skip forward to a year later, post-Infinite Crisis. The tone changes a bit, but it's still beautiful and easy to get into. This part features Rocket Reds, Igneous Man, a shady group called the Global Guardians, hints at the future Sinestro Corps, and then the best storyline...starting with Tomar Tu.

So, you know, amazing.

Hal Jordan’s adventures continue! This was a pretty enjoyable read focused back on Earth this time around. This is very Hal-focused and deals with him struggling with his mistakes that kicked off this entire series of green lantern stories. There were some VERY interesting hints and clues at things to come that I’m excited for (Sinestro is up to something??). I enjoyed seeing Hal work with both Green Arrow and Batman through this book and it felt like a mini-crossover event. Overall, a fun read! Really looking forward to going back to the Green Lantern Corps though.

The art was gorgeous, but Johns failed to tell an interesting story within the pages.
