No Veatch family Christmas is complete without a reading of the Polar Express. I something think that it can't possibly be as magical the next time I read it, but every year I'm proven wrong. The bell still rings for me.

I never wanted to read this book around Christmas time because I alwasy found it to be too depressing for some reason. I don't like the idea of the story as a whole, even when the movie adaption came out I didn't like it.

I read this book to children at the library close to Christmas time. It was wonderful! I myself got into the story and art. :) This is a winner in my opinion.

The book is much better than the movie.

The Polar Express is a picture book who begins with a boy lying quietly in his bed listening to hear the sound of Santa's sleigh bells on Christmas Eve. His ears perk up as he hears something, but it isn't bells. No, it's a train in front of his house! He goes down to investigate and allows the conductor to pull him aboard after he learns that the train is headed to the North Pole.

It's a cute, Christmas book with a theme of the magic of the Christmas holiday. It is non-rhyming and the illustrations are a tad dull in terms of color scheme so readers younger than 2nd grade may struggle keeping focus on the story.

This year was the first time I used the book as a read-aloud as a librarian. I see pictures and posts online of other elementary schools going all out for "Polar Express Day" and was excited to start our own at my school this year. And using Novel Effect (an app with music and sound effects) was a great addition to the reading (for most classes)! However, 2 or my 15 groups had very heated arguments with one another about "if Santa is or is not real" (3rd and 2nd graders). All this to say, teachers and librarians may need to do some context/lessons leading up to this book to prevent some drama ensuing! LOL

though as i've grown old, the bell still rings for me as it does for all who truly believe.

My mom only ever brought this book out at Christmas time, which gave it an air of a sacred object, in my child’s mind, to be treated with the utmost reverence. It also had a heady combination of piney, spicy scents from being stored with the other Christmas decorations, combined with its inherent book smell, that is forever seared into my brain.

A nice short Christmasy story, very enjoyable.

Ang iksi. Sayang sa pera. Char.

The movie was better. I LOVE THE MOVIE.
They did a good job of creating a movie out of 30-page book.

It kinda has The Little Prince vibes. Like how adults grow up, and all that.
Pake ba nila. You can't be a child forever. Char. May pinagdadaanan yan?! Haha!

The Polar Express is a very cute tale of the magic of Christmas. A young boy is told that Santa Claus does not exist but he is so innocent and his imagination so pure that he keeps believing even when the bell stops ringing for others. The illustrations are enchanting and the simplicity of the little boy's Christmas wish is very touching. I would highly recommend this book.
